I have been a mechanic for two decades. I’ve used all sorts of diag tools from autel to snap on and everything under the sun. Let me tell you, I took a gamble on this because of all the hot functions and the lifetime updates. Wow. Genuinely enjoy this bidirectional diag tool much more than the 7,000$ snap on scanner in the shop. This is my go to scanner now. A+++

About darn time someone came out with a mid level bi directional scan tool with 34 special functions that has lifetime updates! This thinkcar 689bt may lack in the graphing department with it’s 4 graph at a time display separately on the 8 inch screen or 4 in 1 together in one graph which in both case is SLOW! I have many other scan tools in this price range from competitors that will leave this 689bt in the rear view mirror in that department but they don’t have lifetime updates. Other than that I like this 689bt very much! It reminds me of the ASUS TUF SABERTOOTH 990FX motherboard color scheme on the back of this 689bt. And the very cool feature with the magnetic vci storage on the back of the tablet is very cool like my 900 lite, I can only hope and pray that thinkcar will continue to improve on this 689bt as this is a brand new release so hopefully it will mature with fixes and improvements in the software.

Fully standalone product, no need to download an app on your phone(though naturally you'd want to update the software by connecting to wifi), just plug in the OBD2 scanner you'll find magnetically attached to the back of the rugged 8" touch screen. Basically an Android 10 tablet that's specialized to handle car OBD2 scans. Complete with a carry bag, charger for both US and EU, and accessories for when wanting to connect to OBD2 by wire.
The red piece you see in the back pulls out as a rest stand for the touchscreen.
Quite intuitive and user-friendly interface, responsive enough for an Android 10.
Scans are decently fast, thorough, and saves(if you let it) so you can refer to it later. Very large car selection and compatibility, though I only needed for the Toyota Prius, Corolla, Camry, and Honda's Civic.
Lifetime updates is a big plus, though that is to be taken with a grain of salt because the company itself hasn't been around before 2018-2019. But still, it is a big selling point compared to many competitors only supporting 1-year software updates.
Great for mechanics and enthusiasts, and perhaps the hobbyist.
